‘Beauty And The Beast’ Prequel Series Greenlighted By Disney+; Briana Middleton Joins Josh Gad & Luke Evans

The long-gestating Gaston & LeFou Beauty and the Beast prequel series is a go. Disney+ has officially greenlighted Beauty and the Best (working title), an eight-episode limited musical series, a prequel to the 2017 live-action film. The movie’s Luke Evans and Josh Gad are reprising their roles as Gaston and LeFou (Louie) in the series, joined by newcomer Briana Middleton (The Tender Bar) as the female lead, Louie’s stepsister, Tilly.

Beauty and the Beast was developed and written by Gad and Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, with the trio serving as executive producers/co-showrunners.

Set in the iconic kingdom of Beauty and the Beast years before the Beast and Belle’s epic romance, the series will follow Gaston (Evans) and LeFou (Gad) as they set off with LeFou’s step-sister, Tilly (Middleton), after a surprising revelation from her past comes to light, sending the unlikely trio off on an unexpected journey filled with romance, comedy, and adventure. While the mysteries of the past are uncovered and the dangers of the present grow, old friends and new enemies reveal that this familiar kingdom harbors many secrets.

Tony Award-nominated director Liesl Tommy (Eclipsed) will direct the first episode.

EGOT Award-winning composer Alan Menken, who scored both the 1991 and 2017 Beauty and the Beast movies, is writing the soundtrack of the series, with lyrics for the first episode by Oscar-nominee Glenn Slater (Tangled). Tommy and Menken are also executive producing, with Evans producing.

Beauty and the Beast is from Disney Branded Television and ABC Signature.  Production will begin in spring 2022.

Luke Evans Forced Out Of Bedroom By Huntsman Spider In Oz

Luke Evans had a terrifying encounter with a Huntsman spider in Australia.

The ‘Beauty and the Beast’ actor has recalled bumping into the speedy arachnid, which he claimed was “the size of face”, while filming Down Under.

Appearing on Alan Carr’s ‘Life’s a Beach’ podcast, he shared: “I did see a huntsman the size of my face.

“As you walk towards it, it bends back ready to pounce at you. The woman that came to clean the house was like, ‘Oh my, it’s just a spider!’ She pulled it by the leg onto the floor.”

The fast-moving spider then went missing and forced the 42-year-old star out of his bedroom.

He added: “It landed on the floor and ran straight back into my bedroom and I couldn’t find it. I had to move rooms.”

Luke spent a period living in Byron Bay to shoot his movie ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’, but has been back home in London since April.

Meanwhile, Luke recently revealed he would jump at the chance to play James Bond.

The ‘Midway’ star wants to become the second Welsh 007 after Timothy Dalton but insisted the prospect of succeeding Daniel Craig, who is set to leave the franchise after upcoming flick, ‘No Time To Die’, would be “daunting”.

Asked about the possibility of playing the iconic spy, he said: “I think I’ve cut my teeth very well in movies I’ve done and I’ve enjoyed every second of it.

“It’s a phenomenal job, a phenomenal franchise, an incredible role. I have to say though, it’s a daunting task for any actor to play the role after Daniel Craig.”

He continued: “No one knows what’s happening. It’s a very secretive process and it’s a wonderful role. I’d jump at the chance, as would many actors in my position, so we shall see.

“It will be an exciting casting moment for the Bond production, I wish whoever gets it the best of luck.”

Luke Evans To Star In Apple’s Drama Series ‘Echo 3’ From Mark Boal Based On Israeli Format

Luke Evans has been tapped to star in Apple’s Echo 3 action-thriller drama series, from Oscar winner Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker), Apple Studios and Keshet Studios.

Echo 3
is set in South America and follows Amber Chesborough, a brilliant young scientist, who is the emotional center of a small American family. When she goes missing along the Colombia-Venezuela border, her brother and her husband — two men with deep military experience and complicated pasts — struggle to find her in a layered, personal drama, set against the explosive backdrop of a secret war.

Evans will play the role of Bambi, Amber’s brother.

The 10-part series is based on the award-winning Keshet Broadcasting series When Heroes Fly, created by Omri Givon and inspired by the eponymous novel by Amir Gutfreund. Given a straight-to-series order by Apple last July, Echo 3 will be shot with English and Spanish dialogue.

Boal serves as showrunner alongside co-showrunner and Jason Horwitch (Berlin Station). The series will be produced by Keshet Studios, with Keshet Studios’ Peter Traugott serving as executive producer alongside Boal, Horwitch, Mark Sourian, Omri Givon, Eitan Mansuri, Jonathan Doweck, Avi Nir (Keshet Media Group), Alon Shtruzman (Keshet International) and Karni Ziv (Keshet Broadcasting).

Evans will next be seen as The Coachman in Disney’s live-action retelling of Pinocchio, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks as Geppetto. He also recently completed filming a lead ensemble role in Hulu’s limited series Nine Perfect Strangers opposite Melissa McCarthy and Nicole Kidman. He can currently be seen in Nicholas Jarecki’s Crisis feature opposite Gary Oldman, and he also stars in The Pembrokeshire Murders, available in the U.S. on BritBox. He’s repped by CAA, United Agents and Anonymous Content.

Boal is the Oscar winning screenwriter of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty.

Echo 3 marks the second straight-to-series order from Apple and one of Keshet International’s production arms, following Suspicion, Keshet Productions’ new drama starring Uma Thurman and based on Amit Cohen and Maria Feldman’s award-winning Israeli series False Flag for Keshet Broadcasting.

Luke Evans Says He ‘Would Jump At The Chance’ To Play The Next James Bond

Luke Evans joins the likes of Rene-Jean Page, Tom Hardy and Sam Heughan on the list of actors rumoured to be taking over the role.

Actor Luke Evans has said he would be interested in playing James Bond when Daniel Craig steps down from the role after his next outing as the British spy.

It would make him the second Welshman to take on the iconic role, following Timothy Dalton.

In an interview with The Mirror, he said: “I think I’ve cut my teeth very well in movies I’ve done and I’ve enjoyed every second of it. It’s a phenomenal job, a phenomenal franchise, an incredible role.

“I have to say though, it’s a daunting task for any actor to play the role after Daniel Craig. No one knows what’s happening.

“It’s a very secretive process and it’s a wonderful role. I would jump at the chance, as would many actors in my position, so we shall see.

“It will be an exciting casting moment for the Bond production and I wish whoever gets it the best of luck.”

The Welshman already has a raft of acting roles under his belt including star turns as Gaston in Disney’s live action Beauty And The Beast, Bard in The Hobbit films, and as Owen Shaw in the Fast And Furious franchise.

Luke Evans, Jacob Tremblay, Olga Kurylenko In Talks To Join ‘Bear Season’ Feature Adaptation (EXCLUSIVE)

Actors Luke Evans (“Beauty and the Beast,” “The Alienist”), Jacob Tremblay (“Room,” “Wonder”) and Olga Kurylenko (“The Death of Stalin,” “Quantum of Solace”) are in talks to star in “Bear Season,” a new coming-of-age immigrant drama from director Simon Aboud (“This Beautiful Fantastic”).

“Bear Season” will be produced out of Toronto by Branded Pictures Entertainment founder J. Todd Harris (“The Trial of the Chicago 7”), and executive produced by Colette Aguilar (“Momentum”), CEO at Madrid-based English-language specialist sales agency Moonrise Pictures, which will represent the film on the international sales market.

Adapted by Donald Martin (“Milton’s Secret”) from Bernie Hafeli’s eponymous novel, “Bear Season” is the story of Chester (Tremblay), an adolescent boy living in post-WWII Detroit with his Polish immigrant mother Olona (Kurylenko) and his deceased father’s brother Izzy (Evans), a rough-around-the-edges former soldier.

Izzy, struggling to adapt to life after the war and suffering from what today would be diagnosed as PTSD, drinks too much and likes to spin a yarn, particularly the story of his brother, Chester’s father, who served in the military alongside Wojtek, a legendary soldier bear. Nobody aside from Chester believes Izzy’s stories, but the boy’s unwavering faith sparks a road trip to uncover the truth of his father’s story and to confirm Wojtek’s existence.

“Donald’s script based on Bernie’s novel was so moving, hopeful, and redemptive, I couldn’t put it down until I was done crying at the end,” recalls Harris. “It’s the kind of movie I want to see, and I think many others will as well. We’re very lucky to have Simon as director and to have attracted this perfect cast.”

“’Bear Season’ is an incredibly intimate portrait of three Polish immigrant family members trying to process their grief,” says Aboud. “Set against the post-war world of relentless industry and progress that was Detroit in 1951, they are the living casualties of WWII. This is a very powerful story of hope and belief, of a boy who bets everything on the truth of his uncle’s drunken stories and the existence of a bear. I’ve always been drawn to road movies and this one has real magic to it.”

“When I read Bernie’s novel,” adds Martin, “and learned of the existence of the actual bear named Wojtek, enlisted as a private in the Polish Allied Forces, drinking beer, smoking, and loading cannons in the fight against the Nazis, I knew that I had to write this script.”

Evans is represented by CAA, United Agents and Anonymous Content, Tremblay by UTA and Play Management and Kurylenko by UTA, Independent Talent Group and Agence Adequat.
